Clove Oil for Hair: Benefits and How to Use
The Wonders of Clove Oil for Hair Health
Clove Essential Oil is extracted from the clove flower or bud, and as mentioned in our previous blog, when you use it on your skin, it can help reduce wrinkles, pigmentation and acne. Clove oil can also be used on your hair to promote hair growth, prevent dandruff and prevent premature grey hair growth.
Promote Your Hair Growth
We have all gone through the painstaking process of trying to grow out our hair. In our heads when we begin this journey we imagine long luscious locks straight out of a shampoo advert. In reality, it involves months of awkward hair length, split ends and more often than not, dry and malnourished hair. Clove oil provides a potential solution to help growing out your hair.
This oil contains a compound called eugenol. When you apply clove oil rich with eugenol to your roots, it helps promote your overall hair growth. When you use this regularly, you can expect to see your hair strengthening, and begin to notice a healthy shine in your hair. This is because, when you treat your hair with clove oil regularly, you encourage and improve blood circulation in your scalp, which promotes better hair growth.
How to Use:
Add a teaspoon of clove oil to warm coconut oil. Apply this solution to the roots of your hair using your fingertips. After 2-3 hours wash your hair until cleaned of the oil.
Treat Dandruff
Dandruff is quite a common scalp problem and some people can feel conscious of it. Clove oil can be used to treat and control dandruff. This is because clove oil contains anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties. When you apply this oil to your hair, it helps fight dandruff and prevent itchy skin.
How to use:
Sooth your dry and irritated scalp by adding 10-12 drops of clove essential oil to your regular shampoo. Use this solution to wash your hair, rinse thoroughly.
Prevent Premature Hair Greying
Spying a grey hair or two in your thirties is normal. However, if you have more grey hair than your natural hair colour, then you can use clove oil to help prevent premature hair aging. Surprisingly in the last ten years more and more people in their late twenties have started experiencing premature hair greying, clove oil can also help those who fall into this category. This is because clove oil contains compounds that improve the production of the natural pigmentation in hair.
How to use:
Add three tablespoons of eucalyptus oil with a teaspoon of clove oil. Massage this solution into your hair and scalp twice a week.
